Levin Sources’ Founder and Director Estelle Levin-Nally has joined the Advisory Council of Ethical Metalsmiths, a US-based organisation of jewellery industry professionals inspiring responsible production and consumption. Committed to socially and environmentally-sound practices across the jewellery industry, Ethical Metalsmiths seeks to connect and educate globally - from mine to market.
The organisation spearheads several pioneering activities, including the Radical Jewelry Makeover: a collaborative effort between makers and market to bring awareness to recycled metals and gemstones. It has also recently launched a project to clean-up legacy mercury formerly used in processing at the Fairmined-certified Gualconda mine in Colombia.
Ethical Metalsmiths hosts an accessible directory for connecting impact-conscious consumers with ethical jewellers and retailers. It is currently working on extending this database to include suppliers for jewellers seeking more options for responsibly-sourced materials, thus building more reliable and resilient supply chains.
Ethical Metalsmiths is an advocate for Fairmined Gold, recycled metals and gemstones, and minimal-impact sourcing. Its capacity building actions, through workshops and industry summits for jewellers, designers and corporations, expands knowledge of materials and practices in an effort to drive consumer demand.
Estelle joins the Advisory Council at an exciting time: Ethical Metalsmiths recently launched a new website and its Better Without Mercury project.
“I am delighted to have been invited to contribute to the brilliant work of Ethical Metalsmiths in an advisory capacity. Much of my work at Levin Sources focuses on supporting private sector entities in their journeys towards Responsible Business Conduct and ultimately the realisation of the Sustainable Development Goals, so the Ethical Metalsmiths vision is welcome one,” says Estelle.
“I look forward to helping drive more responsible and sustainable making and consumption, and making sure impacts are made in the right areas, for years to come. I guess I’m also looking forward to finding more amazing jewellery to wear from these inspiring, responsible jewellers!”
